Dolichovespula maculate is native to southern Canada and the northern United States, but it is most common in the southeastern US. It prefers the forest, where it builds a nest about 23 inches long, high in a tree. The bald-faced hornet is very protective of this nest, and can sting and also spray venom into the eyes of anything or anyone who comes near. Its diet is omnivorous, including spiders, caterpillars, flies, fruit, and nectar, which it feeds to the larvae.

The bee moth is harmful to bald-faced hornets. It will lay eggs inside the bald-faced hornet’s nest. When the bee moth larvae hatch, they feed on the hornets’ eggs and larvae, destroying the nest.

The bald-faced hornet will do anything to protect its nest. This is how we should be about sharing the Gospel. Matthew 28:19a says, “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations.” This means that we should share the Gospel with as many people as possible. Try to give one person a Gospel tract this week.
