Hands holding a beautiful spotted brook trout--dark green on top fading to white at the belly with an orange streak and fins. Read this post to learn about a brook trout's habits, diet, and habitat, plus our experience fishing for them in Colorado

While we were near Grape Creek in Colorado, we had a chance to fish for brook trout. We brought our fly rods down to the creek and cast out our flies. At first, we didn’t catch anything, but soon I got a 9-inch brook trout! Several other people got some too.

The brook trout is a type of char native to the Appalachian Mountains and the Great Lakes. Several populations are found in the Rocky Mountains too. Brook trout grow to 28 inches and weigh up to 14 ½ pounds. They are mostly found in small streams and lakes. Brook trout feed on small fish and insects.

Brook trout are wary of lures and flies. We should be wary of temptations that lure us away from Jesus!

It’s simple: God is holy and just. That means He must punish sin. Because we have all broken God’s Law, we are sinners who deserve God’s wrath. God’s punishment for sin is eternal death in Hell. But because He loves you, He became a Man—Jesus-- and died on the Cross to be punished instead of you. Then, Jesus was buried and rose again alive into Heaven! To receive this gift of eternal life, you must repent (turn from your sin) and trust in Jesus’ sacrifice to save you from God’s wrath against your sin.
