Psalm 31:14-18

My times are in your hand; rescue me from the hand of my enemies and from my persecutors! (v. 15).

David is again pouring out his soul before God.  Yet behind his confusion and fear lies a simple heart of trust: “I trust in You, O LORD; I say, ‘You are my God. My times are in Your hand’” (vv. 14-15a). David understood that God holds every day, every hour, and every moment of life in His hand.

Does this simple heart of trust lie behind your words, even when you are in anguish before God? Do you truly believe that God holds every day, every hour, and every moment of your life in His hand?

God establishes the steps of the person in whose way He delights (Ps. 37:23-24). Tell Him and trust Him.

Lord, I am confused and frightened about __________. I’m not sure what to do. I don’t understand why_________ is hurting me and why You seem to be doing nothing about it. Help me to trust that You know what is best for me. Help me to delight You. Purge me from every selfish thought that would turn me from Your way.

It’s simple: God is holy and just. That means He must punish sin. Because we have all broken God’s Law, we are sinners who deserve God’s wrath. God’s punishment for sin is eternal death in Hell. But because He loves you, He became a Man—Jesus-- and died on the Cross to be punished instead of you. Then, Jesus was buried and rose again alive into Heaven! To receive this gift of eternal life, you must repent (turn from your sin) and trust in Jesus’ sacrifice to save you from God’s wrath against your sin.
