Psalm 93

“Mightier than the thunders of many waters, mightier than the waves of the sea, the LORD on high is mighty!” (v.4)

Remember the last time you saw the waves of the sea. Crashing against cliffs. Smashing rocks. Curling towards shore. Colliding with one another and sending spray into the sky. Think of the sound and the smell. Keep that image in your mind.

Now read Psalm 93:4 again. Consider that God is far mightier than every chaotic force we observe upon this earth. So then, He is far mightier than anything about which you are anxious. If God is mightier than the sea, surely He can take care of you day by day.

Lord, it’s so easy to grow worried, anxious, and stressed. Help me to remember that you are mightier than all my troubles.

It’s simple: God is holy and just. That means He must punish sin. Because we have all broken God’s Law, we are sinners who deserve God’s wrath. God’s punishment for sin is eternal death in Hell. But because He loves you, He became a Man—Jesus-- and died on the Cross to be punished instead of you. Then, Jesus was buried and rose again alive into Heaven! To receive this gift of eternal life, you must repent (turn from your sin) and trust in Jesus’ sacrifice to save you from God’s wrath against your sin.
