Psalm 119:49-72
Just three verses to snatch from this passage for today:
Verse 52—When I think of your rules from of old, I take comfort, O LORD—David takes comfort in God’s righteous rules. We don’t often think of rules as a thing in which we can take comfort, but God’s rules give us surety that the cause of right will remain firm. They also teach us to please God, which should bring us great joy.
Verse 59—When I think on my ways, I turn my feet to your testimonies—Are you constantly pondering your ways, turning your feet to walk in alignment with God’s testimonies?
Verse 62—At midnight I rise to praise you, because of your righteous rules—David does not just passively lie in bed and pray to God only if he happens to be up at midnight; he rises actively even at midnight with an intention of praising God for His righteous rules. Do you love God and His words that much?
Lord, my prayer is from Psalm 119:64: “teach me Your statutes!” Instill within me the kind of passionate love that David had for Your law. Let not my weak flesh hinder my zeal for seeking Your face. Let Your Word comfort me in every affliction, even as it promises me eternal life in Your presence. Be my portion. Let me never forget Your Words. Direct my steps in accordance with Your will. I love You and want not only to serve You but also to have an intimate relationship with You.
